Ranger Aluminum Cup Recap

Apr 29, 2019
Bailey and Morse win at Kentucky Lake.

It was a close one at Kentucky Lake for the teams vying to win the Ranger RT 188 with a 90hp Mercury. In fact, the top two teams were separated by just .15 pounds! In the end, the team of Bailey and Morse took home the new boat with a two day total of 37.87lbs.

The team rallied back on the second day as they were tied for 15th place after the first day with 16.61lbs. They weighed a day's best 21.26lbs on the final day that was helped by a 6.21lb kicker. "We made some good decisions on the final day and switched from our flipping bite in Barkley to targeting fish in Kentucky Lake," said Bailey. The team pitched soft plastics in shallow water and ended up with six keepers each day of the tournament.

Finishing in second was Danny Barksdale and Lance Freeman. They were third after day one and moved up a spot after the second-day weigh-in. "We were strategically junk fishing. We caught fish flipping bushes with jigs and also out deeper for transitional fish with a little bit of everything," said Freeman who added that they focused on the mid-lake section of Kentucky Lake.

Third place was held down by Matt Stanley and Brandon Tramel who weighed in two 18-pound bags. Their consistency was also matched by their fish totals. "We had eight keepers each day. We caught some shallow and some deeper with jigs," said Stanley.

Congrats to all of the top finishers and thanks to everyone who attended this year.
