Leffew and Richardson win at Kaw Lake

The Oklahoma State Regional was held on Kaw Lake out of the Osage Cove Ramp on October 12th. Plenty of shad and a large population of hungry white bass proved to make things interesting at this event.

Taking the top prize was Russell Leffew and Michael Richardson with a limit weighting 11.74lbs, with a 4.06lb big bass. The team reported a slow morning followed by a phenomenal last two hours. "At 10:30, we had one fish and then from 12:45 until the weigh-in, we caught 30-40 bass from one point," said Leffew. They found large schools of shad being chased to the surface by white bass and used a slower approach underneath the action for largemouth and spotted bass with a white spinnerbait.

Second Place was Craig Wolf and Sam Smith with a limit weighing 8.34lbs. They caught two early and then had a late flurry on a windy point. "We caught them with spinnerbaits and a Mann's Baby 1 Minus crankbait," said Wolf.

Third was Jason Schmutz and Mike Nosekabel with a limit for 6.92lbs. Like the other teams they used reaction baits and battled the white bass. "We must have caught 50 white bass, it was a blast. We only had five keeper bass though, four spotted bass and one largemouth," saud Nosekabel. The team used Strike King KVD 1.5 squarebill crankbaits for their bass.

Congrats to the top finishers! U.S.A. Bassin would like to thank all of the teams for their participation this year.
