Next Generation Classic

Rick Cheatham and Trey Mckinney win on Barkley Lake.

The Next Generation Classic was held on Barkley Lake out of Prizer Point Marina. The event featured 40 teams vying for a $5,000 General Scholarship from USA BASSIN.

Taking first was the team of  Rick Cheatham and Trey Mckinney who had two great limits and ended up with 44.12lbs over the two-day event. They had 18.01lbs and headed into Day 2 in second place and then brought in a massive  26.11lb bag on the final day.

"We didn't catch a lot of fish, maybe seven or eight keepers each day. We found five spots offshore holding fish and some of them had brushpiles," said Cheatham. "Some were in the mouth of bays and some were on the main river channel." The team caught fish on a variety of baits, but a jig was the top producer and accounted for most of their giant second-day haul.

Cheatham is Mckinney's coach and boat captain for junior events and has helped Trent have much success with both Bassmaster and FLW junior events. Mckinney will compete in both national championships later this year.
