Mason and Chanler Fleetwood take the win.
The 2017 edition of the Next Generation Classic was held Lake Barkley out of Prizer Point Marina and Resort. The event featured the first prize of a $5,000 general scholarship to the winner.
This year's winner was a team that has fished every single event since it was started in 2011. "This was our 7th time fishing together and it was really cool to get a win in the last one we can do. Chanler is 18 and just a few weeks too old to fish the next one, so we were tickled to win this one," said Chanler's father Mason Fleetwood.
The duo had a solid practice plan based on fish they had marked on some of their key spots. "We never fished for them in practice but knew they were there. We made the run to Kentucky Lake each day and focused on water that was between 8-10ft and used a homemade jig," said Fleetwood.
They caught 11 keepers the first day and amassed a 15.81lb bag to put them in 3rd place. On the second day they only caught seven keepers, but their 17.83lb bag moved them to the top position.
Congrats Mason and Chanler!
