Latest News KY/Barkley Lake Classic Held May 2009 Results and Interviews Part 1![]() Friday, May 08, 2009 The 2008 Season U.S.A. Bassin Classic was held May 2, 3 2009 at KY/Barkley Lakes. Two hundred and eight teams came to compete for over $69,000 in cash and prizes including a first place giveaway of a New 2009 Nitro Z8 with a Mercury 175 motor valued at $30,285.
The weather for the week of the Classic was in the 70’s and lows in the 60’s with scattered rain everyday. That was until a cold front swept over the region with temps dropping into the low 50’s and highs in the upper 60’s with lots of rain. The lakes rose over a foot Saturday and another foot or more Sunday. The water temps were ranging from 64-70F and fell during the two day Classic. This made for some tough conditions for some of the anglers who were reporting good fishing during practice for the week.
Day One weigh-in had close to 170 teams bringing fish to the scales. Big fish for the day was a tie at 5.84lbs between team Logue/Kyle and Felheim/Felheim. Each team received big fish award of $800.
The top 5 for Day One weigh-in as follows:
1st place team Logue/Kyle had their limit for a total of 18.68lbs.
2nd place team Willoughby/Bratcher had a limit of 18.01lbs.
3rd place team Miller/Miller had a limit of 17.07lbs.
4th place team Berger/Voelkerding had a limit of 16.81lbs
5th place team Staton/Huson had a limit of 16.41lbs
First Place team Jon Logue/J.D. Kyle reported their catches being made on rocky points and grass flats in 5-10’ throughout the day. The team didn’t want to comment on the type of lures used for the day.
“It’s too bad this isn’t a one day tournament. We feel like we caught all of our good fish today. We had a miserable boat ride and knew it would be wet rough weather today! We hope to have another good day of fishing tomorrow and win this thing! Our hopes are to be talking to you again tomorrow with the win!”
“U.S.A. Bassin is affordable with many divisions and friendly fisherman. We like the flexibility this trail offers, being able to fish multiple divisions and qualify thru the open division.” - Logue/Kyle
After the day two weigh-in team Worvey/Horn won the 2008 National Points Championship and came in 6th place overall with a total of 30.26lbs. They won by just under 3lbs over Regional Points Champion team Cameron/Norris. They collected a bonus of $1,000 for the National Points Championship win.
“U.S.A. Bassin is very affordable and offers a better return on your money compared to other tournament circuits. “We fish this circuit because it offers a great return and a big Classic. We fish other tournament circuits and for the money U.S.A. Bassin is a far better choice! If you’re going to spend the money fishing tournaments this is the best return on your money! We have been impressed with how the division tournaments are run and the great weigh-ins. We also like the way the point system is setup. It is very economical to move up the ranks to win the National Points Championship bonus of $1,000 and also a chance to win a boat.” -Worvey/Horn
