The Next Generation Classic

The Next Generation Classic

Monday, July 07, 2014

On June 28th and 29th, seventeen teams competed in the Next Generation Classic held on the recently opened Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake in Carroll County Tennessee. The team of Mike and Trysten Williams from Georgetown, IN weighed-in the two heaviest bags of the tournament to claim the 2014 Next Generation Classic Title. Team Williams wasted no time and took the lead after day one with a 5 bass limit weighing 7.80 pounds. They also claimed the day one Big Bass of 3.34 pounds. The top seven teams brought limits to the scales on day one, and less then two pounds separated the top five teams.

Day two of the event was delayed approximately 30 minutes due to nearby storms. Fortunately the storms avoided the lake, but the rain lasted all day. Anglers fished in the rain for 7.5 hours, but did enjoy a dry weigh-in. The weather did not hamper the performance of Team Williams as they weighed in the largest bag of the tournament on day 2 at 8.92 pounds. Mike and Trysten finished the two-day event with a total weight 16.72 pounds.

The team of Mason and Chanler Fleetwood brought 10 bass to the scales for a total weight of 14.27 pounds, and earned 2nd place honors. In addition to finishing 2nd in the Classic, the weight of 14.27 pounds earned Team Fleetwood the award of National Divisional Points Championship Scholarship. Finishing in 3rd place was the team of Mike and Corey Skaggs with 12.70 pounds, and day two Big Bass of 5.30 pounds.

We would like to congratulate all teams that qualified for this event, and congratulate the prize winning teams of Williams, Fleetwood, and Skaggs!

The Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake is a new lake that officially opened in the Spring of 2013. There is no shortage of fish in this lake, as most teams caught several fish each day. The challenge was finding the right size fish, as many bass are still in the 10” range. However, there were approximately 10 bass over the 2 pound mark that were weighed-in during this event, and Mike and Corey Skaggs brought a 5.30 pound fish to the scales.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors that contribute to the Next Generation. Additionally, the support we received from the staff at Carroll County 1,000 Acre Recreational Lake and the local community was second to none! From early morning park openings to late evening cook-outs, the use of park facilities, and loaning a boat to a team that had motor issues, the staff and community welcomed USA Bassin Next Generation; and we greatly appreciate the support!
