Maxed Out!!!

Maxed Out!!!

Saturday, April 05, 2014

At the age of sixteen most high school sophomores are worried about getting a driver’s license, school and planning their summer vacations. Max McQuaide has a few more things on his to-do list, fishing in the Bass Nation High School Championship on Kentucky Lake, organizing a high school fishing team at Tyngsboro High School and running a successful bait company called Maxed Out Baits.

Three years ago Max took up recycling old soft plastics and re-molding them for his own use. As most of us know a good day on the lake can cause us to burn through dozens of soft plastic lures and at $6-$10 dollars a package, a day on the water can start getting expensive quick, especially if your thirteen years old.

Max began small reusing what he had, ripped stick baits, old shaky head worms and shredded creature baits. Quickly he expanded into making and pouring new plastic, blending colors and adding garlic scent. He soon realized the opportunity of selling his custom soft plastics, after he put his baits in the hand of an angler and a few days later received a call wanting him to make more.

An avid tournament angler himself Max has puts his lures to the test. He finished first in eight tournaments throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire in 2013, and landing a 7lb 3oz monster on one of his own baits.

Currently Maxed Out Baits offer a variety of soft plastics including stick worms, jig trailers, shaky heads, creature baits, crawdads, pan fish grubs and what Max calls his “monster” grub. Max pours every bait himself, adding garlic scent as an attractant. One of the most impressive features is his ability to make and match custom colors. Max explained he receives request from tournament fishermen asking for jig trailers that match custom jigs. He can blend a unique color to suit just about any desired pattern. At a price around $4 with usually ten baits per pack Maxed Out Baits offers high quality soft plastic baits for about half the price of the major soft plastic companies.

In the near future Max plans to expand on his current line of products, hopefully adding a drop shot minnow and a twin tail grub in 2014.

At this time Maxed Out Baits can be found at two retail locations, Black Bear Bait and Tackle as well as Granite State Bait and Tackle. Orders can also be made through the Maxed Out Baits facebook page or emailed to Max himself at maxedout.mcquaide@gmail.com . Orders are usually shipped and received within 7-10 days.
