IL-02 Coffeen Lake Winter Division

IL-02 Coffeen Lake Winter Division

Thursday, January 02, 2014

Saturday 12/21/13 the USA Bass IL-02 Coffeen Lake Fall/Winter division held its 2nd of 5 events. The always jovial tournament director Dan Blanton was at the helm. As usual the meeting, take-off, and weigh in went off without a hitch. Dan has now had several years of experience as a USA Bassin director and it shows!

First place and big bass went to the team of Dan Blanton and Mike Evanoff. Their five fish tipped the scales at 11.13 pounds. Coffeen lake is a power plant lake and has a slot limit which is to include two fish at least 15 inches along with 3 fish no less than 12 inches but less than 15 inches. Dan and Mike were able to cull through several fish over 15 inches before settling on their final weight. Dan and Mike concentrated their efforts in the warmer water. The bigger fish were tricked by a spinner bait in about two feet of water on secondary points and lay downs. Their shorter fish were captured using plastic in the hot water arm around lay downs. Their big fish tipped the scales at 4.97 pounds.

Coming in a close second was the team of Castelli & Castelli. Their five fish weighed in at 11.06 pounds.
And rounding in third was the team of Campbell & Germagliotti weighing 5 fish for 11.02 pounds.
