Missouri State Regional

The Missouri State Regional was held on October 19th on Pomme De Terre. 36 took off from Hermitage Park after a short fog delay in the morning. Tournament Director Wayne Bostron said the fishing was excellent and the winning weight was right on par with what is expected from this lake. "We had every boat but one bring at least a fish to the scales. It was foggy and cold in the morning but the fishing was good," said Bostron. Teams from six divisions in Missouri qualified for the event and competitors came from both Missouri and Illinois. "This was our seventh year doing the tournaments here and we have been steady for numbers the past few years. We will kick off our new season in March," added Bostron.

The First Place team was Jim and Glen Young who had a five fish limit weighing 15.20lbs including a 3.80lb fish. "We caught about 20 keepers and caught them pretty much all day. We had some slow periods but it was pretty constant," said Young. The team fished Zoom Brush Hogs in shallow water that was between 2-3 feet. "The fish were shallow eating crawdads around the rocks. When we came back in we noticed that every single boat was way offshore and we thought we messed up and that everyone was catching them since they were all off the bank," added Young. The team had more than enough and won by over two pounds. The foggy conditions forced them to stay close and play it safe, but they were able to catch four keepers right away from a nearby location. For the win the team brought home over $1,300.

Second Place was Doug Wallace and Chris Callahan who had a limit weighing 12.98lbs. Their biggest bass weighed 4.65lbs. This team caught fish throughout the day despite the fact that this was the first time ever coming to the lake. "I came down one day a few weeks ago to drive around and figure out how to get around, but it was Doug's first time here. We're Truman Lake guys so we threw a jig and big worm all day in 10-15ft of water," added Callahan. The team culled three times and caught numerous short fish.

Third Place was Johnnie Creech and Steve Denton with five fish for 12.35lbs including a 4.64lb bass. "We caught most of them on a topwater and jig. It was pretty tough fishing, we culled a few times but did the best first thing in the morning," added Denton.

The team of Keith Melton and Mike Pace had the biggest bass of the tournament at 5.32lbs.
