Latest News Flannagan Lake Regional![]() Monday, September 23, 2013 The first ever Flannagan Lake Regional was held on September 22nd out of the Flannagan Marina boat ramp. Tournament Director Bear Mullins was pleased with the tournament despite the low turn out. "This was our first time ever doing a regional here and we were hurt quite a bit by the recent layoffs at the mines. Many of our teams work there and it has been hard, but we hope to get more and more boats each year," said Mullins. The 11 boat field blasted off onto Flannagan Lake only to find tough conditions after bad storms and recent rains. "Flannagan is usually pretty tough and a 9 to 10lb bag is pretty good here," added Mullins. Taking the top prize was the team of Bear Mullins and his father Scotty Mullins who had a four fish total of 9.66lbs. "We got into breaking fish that were busting on shad in the middle of the lake. We caught them really quick on topwater plugs and it was dead for the rest of the day," added Mullins. Among the four bass they caught, the team also caught several hybrids and short fish. 2nd Place was the young team of Chris Fleming and Justin Stanley, also known as "Team Joons Bass Mafia". The duo were able to find something different and caught a total of 12 of keepers on the day and weighed in 7.56lbs. "We found a different pattern in the river and were catching them on topwater baits from 2hrs into the day until about 2hrs before we had to stop fishing," said Stanley. They were the only team in the field to catch a limit and believe it was because they weren't afraid to try something different. "We are the youngest guys out here and we are really trying to get more young guys into the tournaments around here. We started a Facebook and Instagram page called Junes Bass Mafia and are trying to help promote fishing around here," said Stanley. Third Place was Garnie Sikes and Edgar Deel who ha four fish for 6.01lbs. They were reportedly among the teams tageting bass busting on shad in the middle of the lake during the morning hours. The 2014 season begins in April and Tournament Director Bear Mullins hopes to expand on the first season. "We think this trail will be great for the guys in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and into West Virginia," added Mullins. By: Tyler Brinks
