Latest News New Jersey RegionalSunday, September 15, 2013 The New Jersey Regional was held on the Northeast River on September 15th. The field was faced with challenging conditions following the intense fishing pressure brought on by several major fishing tournaments out of the Chesapeake Bay last week. As a result the fishing was tough for the majority of the field. Tournament Director Mike Giordano said the day started off very chilly and with a layer of fog but turned into a nice day for fishing. Fran Pratt and Matt Pratt took the win with a limit weighing 12.91 pounds. Included in their limit was the big bass of the tournament, a 3.26lb largemouth. The team focused on grass beds on flats to get their fish, Fishing was slow for the team and they only managed five bites all day but made them count. Soft plastics and spinnerbaits were top producers, said Fran Pratt. 2nd Place was the team of Drew Scarpa and Lee Sockwell with a 11.61lb limit. “We heard the grass bite was off so we dedicated all of our time to fishing wood. We fished quite a few areas and would catch one and then move to the next area,” said Scarpa. The team caught all of their fish pitching soft plastics and jigs. 3rd Place was the team of Andy Jones and Jim Shinn who weighed in two fish for 5.67lbs. "We had some mechanical issues and lost four hours of fishing time, which made it hard for us. We caught our fish fishing creature baits around wood," said Shinn. The 2014 Season begins in April.
