Latest News Feburary Tip Of the Month![]() Monday, February 04, 2013 Cold fronts are the blame for most bad fishing days this time of year, but that doesn't mean fish won't bite. One key to success during a cold front is understanding that it doesn't affect bass as much as it does their forage. Bluebird skies and low humidity means more ultraviolet light penetrates the water, and the surface temperature drops. baitfish tend to go deeper, warmer water or get into thick cover. with their forage less visible and not so vulnerable, game fish hunker down until baitfish are easier marks. Anglers who catch cold-front bass know these facts, so they slow down and work lures more methodically. Because bass move under or close to cover, the strike zone shrinks. This means presentations must be more precise. Look for fish under grassbeds, in the thickest brushpile or in deep cover adjacent to shallows. Use subtle baits, such as finesse worms, flipping tubes or jigs, and work the bait closer to the bottom.
