Latest News New Big Bass Record![]() Tuesday, January 22, 2013
The team of Josh Cone and Tony Jolley made U.S.A. Bassin history on January 12th. They weighed in a bass that weighed 11.15lbs from Lake George off of the St. John's River. They finished second in the North Florida Fall/Winter Division event but the huge bass was the talk of the event.
Tournament Director David Weber said everything aligned perfectly for this event; the weather was excellent and the fishing was outstanding. "We had great weather, the highs got into the mid 80's and the fish were on spawning beds," said Weber. Besides the monster big bass, they also had the biggest bag ever weighed in during a Florida U.S.A. Bassin tournament, as the winning team had over 30lbs. "The winning team had a bass that weighed 9.30lbs and it was a big one, but once Josh weighed his it was like looking at a minnow compared to a whale," recalls Weber.
Josh Cone was the lucky angler who caught the record-setting bass. He recalled how the disappointed of the morning quickly went away when he spotted the 11.15lb bass. "I went to my first spot in the morning where I had seen two 7lb plus fish on beds, but they were gone. I kept looking around and ran right over the big one," said Cone. In all, it took approximately thirty minutes to catch her. He tried unsuccessfully for about twenty minutes before coming back to her after a short break, she bit immediately after that. The lure of choice was a Yum Mighty Bug. It was also the largest bass he had ever caught. Coincidentally, his previous personal best was a 9.3lb bass, also caught during a U.S.A. Bassin event last year.
