Eastern Kentucky Regional

Eastern Kentucky Regional

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

09/23/2012- The Eastern Kentucky regional was held out of Barker’s Marina on Yatesville Lake. 42 teams waited out an almost two hour fog delay before getting started. The fishing proved to be tough with the shortened day, a cold front moving through and bluebird skies during the day. Tournament Director Wes Halbert added “Their were quite a few teams that either blanked or only brought one fish to the scales. It was a real test of our anglers.” The winning teams found the right schools of fish in deeper water and were able to bring in some nice bags.
Taking 1st place was the team of Larry Stambaugh and Larry Crum, who were also the defending champions for this event. The team brought in a limit weighing 15.36lbs and also had the biggest bass of the tournament, a 5.24lb bass. Larry Stambaugh said they caught their fish in 8-10ft of water. The key to their win was the decision making, “We found two schools of bass in practice and as we headed to the first area we saw four boats on their way their. We decided to head to the other direction and it paid off, we never left that area and it paid off,” added Stambaugh. The team caught six keepers and fished Zoom Brush Hogs and a War Eagle spinnerbait to land their bass.
Second place was the team of Daryl Kazee and Chris Allison who weighed in a limit weighing 15.04lbs. The duo caught their fish on Carolina-rigged brush hogs and focused on depths averaging 12 feet. They caught fish throughout the day and culled four times.
Third Place was the team of Brent and Brian Massie who weighed in 13.21lbs.
Tournament Director Wes Halbert wanted to extend a special thanks to The Great Outdoor’s Marine for hosting the pre-tournament meeting and making sure all of the anglers were fed prior to the meeting.
