West Virginia Regional

Tuesday, October 09, 2012

10/7/2012 - Lake Summersville was the site of the West Virginia regional. 31 teams, coming from eight West Virginia regions took to the waters this morning. Tournament Director Jason Williamson stated "The fishing was pretty tough and the weather was pretty nasty, but overall it was a good event." The weights were lower than normal on this lake with all the top three mentioning they caught plenty of fish, but adding that the size was lacking.
The team of Ken Bragg and Phillip Conley brought in 8.61lbs of bass to take the title. They caught 10-12 keepers throughout the day and relied heavily on topwaters early and then a Carolina-rig in deeper water. Ken Bragg added "We caught some on a Pop-R early, then switched to soft plastics in 10-12ft of water." The team also had the biggest bass of the event, a 3.14lb bass that fell for a Carolina-rig.
Finishing second was the team of Steve Dinkler and Rick Brown who weighed in 7.50lbs. They won the tiebreaker with the third place team after weighing in a larger bass. They also caught fish throughout the day and culled several times. Steve Dinkler said "we caught them from the bank all the way offshore. We were catching them on a drop-shot and Carolina-rig."
Third Place was Kemp Phillips and Wes Carr who weighed also weighed in 7.50lbs. Their day started off very slow, but a late flurry of activity saved their day. Kemp Phillips said "At noon we didn't have a fish, but once we headed out and started fishing the creek channels we started catching fish." They also utilized a Carolina-rig and drop-shot and said the key bait was a 4" Cabin Creek lizard.
Tournament Director Jason Williamson said "I want to thank everyone for their participation this year. Our current season is underway and we look forward to another great year." The West Virginia divisions are sponsored by SportMart and The Great Outdoors Marine.
