Jenny Beth Wins Twice!!

Jenny Beth Wins Twice!!

Monday, June 04, 2012

2012 has definitely started off with a Bang in the Next Generation Divisions. We are turning out more boats than the last 2 years combined as the news spreads about what we are all about. We have a very diverse group of Youth Anglers and the Boys have been shown up this year in KYNG-01. We have more young ladies involved with us as well this year. Jenny Beth Myers who fishes with her Dad, Tommy Myers, is one of them and she jumped head first into the tournament trail by shooting shots across the bows of all the young men fishing against her and has won 2 of the first 3 tournaments and placed in the money in 3 of the 4 that she and her dad have competed in. Not only has she won but she has set a couple of firsts for the Next Generation circuit, first Jenny Beth was the FIRST young lady to win a Next Generation tournament, and she is also the FIRST young lady to win 2 tournaments. Oh Yeah, did I mention that she is only 9 years old? This just might have her as the youngest winner in a Next Generation so far, but I haven’t conformed that yet!

I recently got to talk with Jenny Beth about her accomplishments so far this year. The teams’ first win was by 2 pounds in the season opener on Barkley Lake, and the second win was a definite eye opener when she, Jenny Beth, needed help toting her sack to the scales that weighed 21.05 pounds. I asked Jenny Beth if she knew that she was the “First” girl to win in the Next Generation trail and she said “no, I was actually shocked to find out that I was the first girl to win”. She is a very humble young lady who is short spoken but right to the point for sure. I asked her what she thought about the trail and she said “I like it”. She says “fishing with Dad and making friends is the best part” of the trail, noting that she really has become good friends with Avery Hulse which is another young lady who has been fishing with us since last year. I made mention of the Classic next year and Jenny Beth’s eyes lit up. I asked if she was looking forward to fishing in the classic next year and she definitively and very emphatically said “YES”! Like I said, she is very short spoken and straight to the point. Jenny Beth was asked about what else she liked about the Next Generation trail and she said “the free baits and gear are great, but the “crying towel” award is always sad and I don’t like telling my hard luck story of the day”. I often ask if anyone has had a hard day on the water and I call it my hard luck story of the day, which is a time to reflect on the day and it even gets the dads thrown under the bus sometimes and a great laugh is had by all about the trials of tournament fishing.
Jenny Beth said she wanted to “thank the sponsors for the free gear” and that she really likes getting the lures to catch more fish with. “Thanks to my Dad for taking me to the tournaments” and “thank you to Mr.’s Johnny, Tim, Herb, Mrs. Dawn, and Ms. Ashlee for running the tournaments, doing the weigh-ins, records keeping, and talking the pictures”. Jenny Beth says “I can’t wait to get back out here for the next tournament, because I like to fish”!
Jenny Beth is a very nice young lady and has been fun to cut up with each week and to hear her quick wit about things. She is just one example of the numerous GREAT Youth Anglers that we have fishing with us. Tommy and Dana Myers are her parents and I want to thank them for their involvement with her in the trail and for making a respectable young lady out of her. Keep up the Good work Jenny Beth and keep catching them!
