What a Finish!!!

What a Finish!!!

Friday, February 24, 2012

On February 4th the North Florida Fall/Winter Division of USA BASSIN held their last tournament on St John’s/ Astor. Nobody ever said winning a divisional point’s race would be easy. Heading into the final tournament of the North Florida Fall/Winter Division, team Tony McDaniel/Charles Moody had a mere 1 point lead over team Eric Hartman/Rick Herman for the Divisional Point's Champions Crown. At weigh-in all eyes were on both of these teams. The team of Eric Hartman/Rick Herman weighed-in first. Their 5 fish limit weighed-in at 13.49lbs good enough for a 4th place finish. Team Tony McDaniel/Charles weighed-in next, all they needed was to weigh-in more than 13.49lbs and they would be crowned the Divisional Point's Champions. As fate would have it, their limit of 5 fish weighed-in at only 11.39lbs, good enough for only a 5th place finish. This put both teams tied with 477 points each for the season. To break the tie, USA BASSIN rules state that the team with the most weight for the season would break the tie. After researching the web site and calculating the day’s weight, the team of Tony McDaniel / Charles Moody weighted-in 18 bass for a season total weight of 43.00lbs. The team of Eric Hartmann / Rick Herman weighed-in 17 for a total season weight of 42.59lbs. The team of Tony McDaniel / Charles Moody won the Divisional point's Champions title by only .41lbs. WOW!!! Tony McDaniel and Charles Moody won the Divisional Championship by being the most consistent team this year. They did it without winning a signal divisional tournament. Their finishes were as followed: two 4th place finishes, a 5th place finish, a 7th place finish, and an 8th place finish.

The Divisional point’s race was not the only electrifying event that happened during this tournament. The team of Josh Cone / Tony Jolley won the tournament with 5 fish that weighed-in at 19.96lbs. Not a record weight for a 5 fish limit, far from it, but their biggest fish did set a new record. The team started out that morning with a little trouble, the pump on their trim motor went out and they had a hard time getting to the area they wanted to fish. After some hard work they finally made it to the location the wanted to fish. They caught one keeper fish really quick and then the bite slowed for them. Because of the trim motor they fished this area a little longer than they had planned. Around 10:15 Josh catches sight of a big bass on the nest. On his first cast into the nest he catches the male fish, a solid 3 pounder. He worked on the female for close to 45 minutes without any luck. At this time he was about to give up thinking that this fish just wasn’t going to hit anything and was also concerned about getting out of this place with the trim motor missed up. He decided to give it one more try before they would call it quits and as distiny would have it the big one hit his Yum crawfish bait. The fish weighed in at 9.21lbs. The fish was not only the biggest fish for this tournament but also the biggest fish ever caught in this division and the biggest fish ever caught in a USA BASSIN tournament. Congratulations to Josh Cone / Tony Jolley for this great accomplishment, to Tony McDaniel / Charles Moody for winning the Divisional point's Championship and a big thank you to all the teams that competed in the North Florida Fall/Winter Division.
