Remington wins big with the basics

Remington wins big with the basics

Monday, November 28, 2011

USA Bassin bass tournaments are team events. However, many anglers choose to fish solo. Several anglers do extremely well fishing alone and not with a team mate. One angler in southern Indiana has fished solo in Bassin events since 2008. Fishing alone is one thing but doing it from a 14 foot jon boat is another.

Rex Remington has amazed many fishermen with his ability to catch monster bass from his back to the basics rig.  Rex’s jon boat is powered with a six horsepower motor and a three horsepower trolling motor both mounted on the transom of the boat. The six horsepower outboard will move the jon a whopping 16 mph.

He brings along ten fishing rods and a big Bass Pro Shops tackle bag. The live well is mounted in the forward portion of the boat. The live well is a manual fill up tote box with an aerator. The system works well said Remington as he boasted about never losing a fish. Rex felt the tote being blue helped keep the fish at ease and he rarely had fish flop trying to elude capture.  A Hummingbird depth finder is mounted midway of the boat.

Recently on Lake Monroe during the last fall division tournament of the season Remington brought in a huge bag of fall Bass weighing in at 21.30 lbs. In the limit of fish Remington had he also captured the big bass money with a 6.84 largemouth.  He was able to win the tournament but was unable to pass the Next Generation team of Dominic and Demetrius Patton for the Monroe fall division title.  In an interview with Remington I asked him when he was going to get a fiberglass bass boat. He replied, “I always said that I would never buy a nice boat until I had a place to store it”. Well Lake Monroe Bassin anglers beware! Rex is near completion of his pole barn and is looking to purchase a boat before spring division fishing starts.  Rex hails from Freetown Indiana and works in Seymour Indiana at the Sylvania light bulb plant.

Tournament Director Rick Ingram would like to thank all of the Bassin members that fished a division tournament on Lake Monroe this year. Rick is going to continue to direct spring, Saturday night, and fall divisions on Monroe. Dates for all of these are now posted on the division web page.
