Director's Classic

Director's Classic

Wednesday, August 30, 2023

The Director's Classic was held on Lake Monroe and featured a $5,000 top prize. This event is an annual tradition that brings USA Bassin directors together for one tournament, vying for the big payout and bragging rights. This was a close one, with James Shipley and Charles Cross taking the win with 14.27lbs, just .07 over Tony Bratcher and Rollin Absher.

Shipley and Cross are directors of the Lake Monroe night divisions and used their local knowledge for the win. "We stuck shallow and targeted grass," said Shipley. "We only had five keepers and a few short fish, so never culled. We had all of our fish by 9 o'clock."

With a good bag early, they had an idea they had a shot for the win. "Looking back at some of the weights here, we knew we had a good bag," he said. "But, it's fishing and you never know."

The win was nice for the duo and said they had a great time with their fellow directors. "It's always nice to see everyone and meet some new people," said Shipley. "It also feels good to represent since this is our home lake."
