Bass Cat Silver Cup Winners

Bass Cat Silver Cup Winners

Monday, May 01, 2023

The Bass Cat Silver Cup was held on Pickwick Lake on April 28th and 29th and the field was vying for the win and chance at a brand new Bass Cat Bobcat and 150 horsepower Mercury outboard. Along with the top award, big money was on the line for the top finishers.

Taking the win was the team of Josh Workman and Devin Fowler, who had a two-day total of 30.95lbs.

The first day, the team reported a great start to the day and a quick limit. "We launched at 6:30 and by 6:58, we already had two keepers in the boat," said Workman. "We were targeting mainlake bluffs with a drop-shot and had our limit by 8:30."

Their first day catch of 16.47 consisted of solid keepers and a 3.96lb big bass. After the first day, they found themselves in 3rd place.

The second day of the event was more of the same and they caught their fish drop-shotting main lake bluffs once again with a green pumpkin Zoom Finesse Worm.

"The first day, we caught our limit quickly and had time to go look for more areas," said Workman. "We fished some of those same places and ran some new water. We never got a big bite but culled twice."

Their second-day total was 14.48lbs, but more than enough to secure the win. The victory was sweet for Workman, who began fishing USA Bassin with his late father.

"My dad got me into fishing when I was in high school to keep me out of trouble and we fished together out of a 1986 Pro Craft with a 40 horse on it," he said. "As we got more into events, we decided to start fishing with USA Bassin because it's a good group of guys. We fished our first USA Bassin event together in March of 2022 and that Monday after he went into the hospital and passed two months later. This means a lot because that was the last time we fished together."

Now fishing the WV-01 Central West Virginia Division with Fowler, the team will bring the boat back to West Virginia with pride.
